Indianapolis, IN - November 4, 2008
Indianapolis-based Rare Bird, Inc. has been honored with a 2008 WebAward by the Web Marketing Association. The honor for "Outstanding Achievement in Website Development" was awarded to Rare Bird for their work on e-PatternsCentral.com, a convenient online source for web-deliverable patterns in crochet, quilting, knitting, plastic canvas, tatting, cross-stitch, sewing and crafts. The site was created for the publishing division of Berne, Indiana, based Dynamic Resource Group (DRG).
The WebAwards are the premier Internet award competition that judge web site development against an ever-increasing Internet standard of excellence and against peer sites within an industry. With thousands of entries from more than 40 countries, the WebAwards set the standard of excellence by evaluating web sites and defining benchmarks based on the seven essential criteria of successful web site development, including design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use. E-PatternsCentral.com scored more than 28% higher than the industry average, earning placement in the upper echelon of all sites entered. (See graph, below.)
This award marks the second consecutive year that Rare Bird has placed highly in the competitive shopping category. "I think it's a reflection of our focus on solving difficult e-commerce challenges," said Ben Rothe, co-founder and CEO of Rare Bird. "We've carved out a strong niche as an able e-commerce solution provider, especially in the publishing industry."
Now in its third generation as a privately owned company, DRG has two major business divisions: one in magazine and book publishing and consumer catalogs, the other in subscription and product fulfillment. The publishing division publishes nine special interest consumer magazines and several hardcover and softcover books that are sold direct to consumers through catalogs and the Internet, as well as through wholesale and trade channels.
The Web Marketing Association is working to create a high standard of excellence for web site development and marketing on the Internet. Staffed by volunteers, it is made up of Internet marketing, advertising, PR and design professionals who share an interest in improving the quality of web site development and marketing on the Internet. The goal of the Web Marketing Association, sponsor of the WebAwards, is to provide a forum to recognize the people and organizations responsible for developing some of the most effective web sites on the Internet today.
