Associate Writer
You notice clever taglines and social media ads that make you stop scrolling. You can knock out 500 words without breaking a sweat, but whittle that down to 50 when necessary. You love language (you’ve always been a reader), and are prepared to defend the Oxford comma’s honor. You spot the typo in the fine print.
You’re curious about how brands tell their stories. You see AI as a useful tool, but know a writer’s superpowers are discernment, good taste, and knowing what stays (and what to expunge). You know what “expunge” means and enjoy the unexpected thrill of seeing it here.
At Rare Bird, the Associate Writer collaborates with a team of other creative professionals to implement campaigns that capture people’s attention and build lasting connections.
This role is required to work in our Carmel office at least a few days per week.
Job responsibilities
- Content development: Draft website copy, blog posts, emails, video scripts, social content, proposals, and anything else made of words for Rare Bird and our client roster, adjusting voice, style, tone, and format as needed.
- Client collaboration: Participate in client calls and discovery meetings, ask questions that go beyond the surface, and turn what you hear into a working draft that reflects the client’s brand voice and mission.
- Revision: Take feedback from teammates and clients and use it to make a cleaner, better draft by tightening the prose, fixing the structure, or rethinking your entire approach if that’s what the draft needs.
- Quality control: Catch errors in our work before it goes out the door, from typos and broken links to facts that need verifying before a client (or one of their customers) sees them.
- Time management: Manage multiple clients, projects, and deadlines at once, and know which ones need to move first when everything feels urgent.
- Professional development: Build fluency in the tools and disciplines around the writing itself—SEO/AEO best practices, AI-assisted research, content management systems, and basic analytics—so your writing keeps working after it’s published, not just when it’s completed.
